What’s The Best Option for Adult Braces?

Adult BracesChildren and teens typically wear braces, but now it’s more common than ever in adults. This is especially true with innovations like clear and invisible braces.

Adult braces are necessary when you have crooked or misaligned teeth that interfere with a healthy bite. Further, braces are suitable if you have a small mouth that causes tooth crowding or a large mouth with spaces between teeth.

Today’s orthodontics offer more options for adults. If you want a perfect smile, discuss these options with your dentist.

  1. Metal Braces. Usually called traditional braces, metal braces are fixed metal brackets and wires that are smaller and less noticeable than the notorious “metal-mouth” braces that many adults remember. Metal brackets are relatively cheaper than other types of braces.
  1. Ceramic Braces are tooth-coloured fixed braces that are small in size and blend into the teeth making them less noticeable than metal braces. This option is more expensive than metal braces but works equally well.
  1. Lingual Braces. These are fixedl metal braces — except that brackets and wires are placed on the insides of teeth so they are hidden from view. Lingual braces are difficult to clean, can affect speach, and are more expensive. Lingual braces are more applicable to people wanting invisible braces to resolve the most severe overcrowding.
  1. Clear Aligners. These consist of a series of custom-made mouthguard-like clear plastic aligners. The aligners are removable and are replaced every two weeks. However, this type of braces does not work for serious dental problems. Invisalign is only available for adults and teens, not children. Further, this treatment is more expensive than metal braces.
