Dr. Ashley Davenport and Dr. Catherine Myatt both work on our smile makeover cases and they have given many a patient a beautifully enhanced smile over the last 20 years.

They are qualified to deliver this treatment having both completed postgraduate training at Tipton Training in Manchester.

Here are a few questions Dr. Ashley Davenport has answered for us:

Question: How long does the treatment take?

Ashley-Davenport-profileDr. Ashley Davenport answers:

This really all depends on what your goals are and what treatment is recommended in order to achieve those desires. If short-term orthodontics is required this will take a few months on top of any other treatment that is carried out. Veneers will only take two dental appointments and tooth whitening only takes a couple of weeks.

Question: How permanent is a smile makeover?

Ashley-Davenport-profileDr. Ashley Davenport answers:

Short-term orthodontic treatment will move the teeth into new positions and will usually be held in place with a discreet wire at the back to prevent them from moving back, so this is a permanent treatment. Veneers last many years but can break or chip, just like a normal tooth can, so you need to be careful with and look after them as you would your natural teeth, although veneers can be repaired or replaced.
Tooth whitening is not permanent as it simply removes the stains that build up from ageing and certain foods and drinks. You will notice the teeth will gradually discolour but you can have the treatment again to keep those pearly whites gleaming.

Question: Does a smile makeover give you a fake, Hollywood smile?

Ashley-Davenport-profileDr. Ashley Davenport answers:

Not unless that’s the look you’re after. A smile makeover is about working out what you don’t like, understanding your aspirations and looking at the techniques that can be used to create the smile that you really want. Here at Balsall Common Dental Practice we will recommend a natural look that will be as kind to the teeth as possible and that will suit you for the long term rather than being fashionable right now.

Question: Do teeth get drilled for veneers?

Ashley-Davenport-profileDr. Ashley Davenport answers:

When providing treatment for cosmetic reasons our focus is on conservative and minimalistic removal of tooth structure. There is an element of tooth drilling in preparation for dental veneers. The shiny outside layer of enamel is removed to ensure the veneer can properly bond to the tooth. If teeth to be veneered are straight then the amount of tooth removed is the same as the veneer thickness to prevent it from sticking out.
