How Dental Contouring Works

smile, dentalhealth, oralhealth, teeth,Dental contouring is a cosmetic procedure that is also referred to as tooth reshaping and is carried out to give your teeth an even or uniform appearance. Dental contouring provides an option for people who may want to subtly alter their smile without the need for dramatic cosmetic procedures.

The following are some of the benefits of dental contouring and little about what to expect during the dental appointment.

Dental contouring can help fix the following issues with your smile:

·         Pointed or Irregularly shaped teeth

·         Noticeable chips on your teeth

·         Overlapping teeth

·         Uneven length of teeth

In the majority of cases, tooth reshaping is carried out on the upper front teeth that include the central incisors, the lateral incisors and even the canines. These are the teeth that are mostly seen when you smile.

The Dental Contouring Process

The process starts with consultation with your dentist taking time to evaluate oral health so as to determine if you are a good candidate for tooth reshaping. The evaluation will involve taking x-rays of the entire mouth to help see the health status of your teeth.

Dental contouring is used to address small issues with your smile which makes the process unsuitable for people who desire to see dramatic changes to their smiles.

After pointing out the teeth you want reshaped and discussing with your dentist the reasons and nature of work to be carried out, the procedure can commence at a later appointment. On the actual appointment, the dentist will smooth of small amounts of enamel from your teeth to make small changes to the shape, appearance and length to your teeth. A local anaesthetic is not needed as removal of small amounts of enamel is painless.

Even though the amount enamel removed from your teeth is small, the small amounts account for a big difference in the final appearance of your smile. The dental contouring procedure can be combined with tooth bonding to correct larger imperfections.

Polishing forms the finals step of the process so that all surfaces look uniform and normal for your brand new smile.
